Top 5 Reasons Why YOU Should Attend G.I.R.L. Conference 2018

The G.I.R.L. Conference is back for its second year! This is THE event for Girl Scouts in middle and high school: a one-of-a-kind leadership conference dedicated to igniting your inner Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader. But don’t take it from us! Here’s what last year’s participants have to say about why YOU should be at the G.I.R.L. Conference this year:

#1 – Inspiration

“I loved all of the guest speakers, and hearing their amazing stories about Girl Power. By the end, I really wanted to take action!” – Ambassador Girl Scout, G.I.R.L. Conference 2017 Participant

At the heart of the G.I.R.L. Conference are the speakers and workshop facilitators. These women from across our community have come to share their knowledge, wisdom, and experience directly with YOU, our community’s future leaders! This year, we’ve focused on bringing you experts from each of the four pillars of Girl Scouting: STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. You can find the full line-up on our website, but some highlights include…

  • Jes Baker, internationally-renowned author, activist, and leader in the body positivity movement
  • Catherine Merrill, scientist and project manager at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory
  • Rachele Peterson, Executive Director of the University of Arizona’s Banner Health “All of Us” Research Program
  • Amber Wong & Dee Oldson, environmentalists, outdoor experts, and members of the Arizona Conservation Corps
  • Adiba Nelson, award-winning author and disability-and-inclusion expert
  • Raquel Goodrich, mental health leader and founder of Text, Talk, Act

Whether you dream of a career in the boardroom, classroom, halls of government, or great outdoors, you are guaranteed to walk away from the G.I.R.L. Conference inspired by the women you’ve met and motivated to follow your passions and dreams.

#2 – Skill-Building

“The best part of the G.I.R.L. Conference was when we tested solar power and battery power. That session totally opened me up to a new and wonderful career option.” – Cadette Girl Scout, G.I.R.L. Conference 2017 Participant

You won’t just be inspired by what you hear at the G.I.R.L. Conference — you’ll also be challenged to do new things you haven’t done before! Our workshop topics this year include interview skills, resume-writing, self-defense, outdoor safety, camping skills, mental health, science and engineering, creative expression, freestyle dance, social media skills, entrepreneurship, civic engagement (including how to run for political office!)…and that’s not even a complete list! Throughout the day, you’ll attend four of these sessions with your fellow Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors, where you’ll do activities and join discussions designed to help you build new skills and strengths.

#3 – Sisterhood

“I loved the feeling of inclusion and empowerment and I really liked that we got to work together with new people I had not met before. It was really fun!” – Senior Girl Scout, G.I.R.L. Conference 2017 Participant

Where else but the G.I.R.L. Conference can you meet awesome girls your age from across the state? This is our largest program dedicated exclusively to Girl Scouts in middle and high school (and in fact, it’s open to non-Girl Scouts, too!) — which means you’ll meet 100 young women from all over Southern Arizona who want to strengthen their leadership skills, just like you! We guarantee that among this group of like-minded G.I.R.L.s you’ll make new friends as you experience the sisterhood of Girl Scouts firsthand.

#4 – FUN!

“The activities were really fun! Thank you!!!” – Girl Scout Cadette, G.I.R.L. Conference 2017 Participant

Have we mentioned yet that the G.I.R.L. Conference is tons of FUN!? As G.I.R.L. and Olympic medalist Simone Biles says, “At the end of the day, if I can say I had fun, it was a good day.” We agree — and we think you’ll feel the same way! From blasting our special G.I.R.L. Power playlist (featuring the conference speakers’ favorite songs for inspiration and motivation) to attending workshops that encourage you to let loose, take risks, laugh loudly, fail forward, and be yourself, G.I.R.L. Conference 2018 promises to be nothing short of a GREAT day.

#5 – Self-Discovery

Magic happens when girls and women come together to share their stories. At G.I.R.L. Conference 2018, you’ll have the rare and special opportunity to learn about yourself through the eyes and experiences of your sister go-getters, innovators, risk-takers, and leaders. As you get to know our keynote speakers, workshop facilitators, and fellow conference participants, you’ll also get to know someone especially important: yourself! The G.I.R.L. Conference is designed to challenge you to leave your comfort zone, and discover new strategies for silencing that pesky inner critic and strengthening your sense of self. Throughout the day, you’ll learn, grow, lead, reflect, and practice lifting up your own unique voice. And by the time you head home, you’ll see that you are not alone in making this leadership journey—you belong to a powerful community that supports you every step of the way!

The G.I.R.L. Conference will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Angel Charity Place for Girls, from 10am to 4pm. It is open to all girls in 6th-12th grade. Space is filling up fast! Register today.
