Top 5 Tastiest S’mores in Southern AZ

Every Girl Scout knows S’mores are summertime’s sweetest treat. The best part about them? They can be made any way you want! And in honor of National S’mores Day, we are on a quest to find the secret to S’mores success. After asking Girl Scouts from across our council to submit their most creative and delicious S’mores recipes, Daisies Leighton and Natalie, Brownie Brielle, Cadette Hannah, and Senior Girl Scout Madeline are our five finalists!

Now we need your help to choose the Grand Prize Winner. (What’s the Grand Prize, you ask? A S’mores kit and $30 gift certificate to the Girl Scout Shop!) Check out these five go-getting Girl Scouts’ recipes below, then head on over to our Facebook page to vote for your favorite. 

 

Contestant #1: Leighton

Strawberry Shortcake S’mores

Leighton is a Daisy in Troop 402. She says that she tested a few of her favorite recipes on her family so they could help her choose the best one. Great idea, Leighton!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Trefoil Girl Scout Cookies
  • White Chocolate Chips
  • Marshmallows
  • Strawberries
  • Whipped Cream

Steps:

1. Clean and thinly slice the strawberries.
2. Melt the white chocolate chips.
3. Toast the marshmallow. (Tip- Leighton’s family recommends the broiler method to help get a crispy top and an oozy gooey bottom)
4. Stack two or three slices of the strawberries on one cookie.
5. Smear the melted chocolate on another cookie.
6. Place the toasted marshmallow on top of the strawberries and top with the chocolate covered cookie to create the S’more.
7. Put whipped cream on top of the S’more.
8. Enjoy!

Contestant #2: Natalie

S’mores on the Stick

Natalie is a Daisy in Troop 113. Natalie explains her masterpiece as a healthier version of S’mores. Yummy!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Banana
  • Chopsticks
  • Dark chocolate chips
  • Bear-shaped graham crackers
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Sprinkles

Steps:

  1. Put a chopstick into a half cut banana.
  2. Melt the chocolate chips and dip the banana in.
  3. Sprinkle the bear-shaped graham crackers, mini marshmallows and sprinkles onto the banana.
  4. Refrigerate the banana until it gets cold. Toast the marshmallow when you serve.
  5. Enjoy!

Contestant #3: Hannah

Do-Si-Dos S’more

Hannah is a Cadette in Troop 444. She was able to put her own creative twist on S’mores using a Twix bar and bacon.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1 Do-Si-Dos Girl Scout Cookie
  • 1 Marshmallow
  • 1 Slice of Cooked Bacon
  • 1 Fun Size Twix Candy Bar

Steps:

  1. Twist open the Do-Si-Dos cookie. (Just like you would with an Oreo).
  2. Cut the candy bar in half.
  3. Place the half candy bar on the Do-Si-Dos half.
  4. Toast the marshmallow.
  5. Put the roasted marshmallow on top of the candy bar and Do-Si-Dos half.
  6. Cut the bacon into thirds.
  7. Place the bacon on top of the toasted marshmallow.
  8. Top with the remaining Do-Si-Dos half.
  9. Enjoy!

Contestant #4: Madeline

Gimme S’more

Madeline is a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 2153, and said she put together this recipe using her favorite treats!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1 Cup of Salted Butter
  • 1 Cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Dark Chocolate Chips
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Mini Marshmallows
  • 2 Packs of Graham Crackers (Enough to cover the bottom of the pan)

Steps:

  1. Grease the bottom of a 12×17 pan with shortening and preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Cover the bottom of the pan with a layer of graham crackers.
  3. Melt the butter in a sauce pan, then add the brown sugar and bring it to a boil. While stirring constantly, continue to boil for about 5 minutes until thick and bubbly.
  4. Remove from the heat and pour over the graham crackers, making sure to cover all the crackers with a thin layer of the mixture.
  5. Place the pan in the oven. Let heat for about 2 minutes, or until the top bubbles.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Allow 1 minute for them to sit and melt, then use a spatula to spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the marshmallows over top. Return to oven and heat until the marshmallows are soft and brown.
  8. Top with crushed graham crackers.
  9. Allow to cool. Cut into squares. Enjoy!

Contestant #5: Brielle

Bacon-Elvis S’mores

Brielle is a Brownie in Troop 124, and told us she created this recipe for her dad, who loves bacon, and for her Papi, who loves Elvis!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Graham Crackers
  • Big Marshmallows
  • Crispy Bacon
  • Nutella with Chili Powder and Black Pepper
  • Butter
  • Bananas

Steps:

  1. Cook the bacon crispy.
  2. Dip the bacon in the sweet and spicy Nutella mix.
  3. Slice the bananas and cook them in a pan with butter until they are golden brown.
  4. Toast the marshmallow and place it on a warm graham cracker.
  5. Smoosh together the marshmallow and graham crackers with the bananas and bacon.
  6. Enjoy!
